Hi all; Here is a condensed version of my (bad) DELL tech experience. After an automatic XP update I started to have strange OS problems. First call was answered by a RUDE Indian sounding tech. His immediate response was a Virus and he could not help. Per his instruction I called Symantech and paid to have one of their techs prove that there was no virus. I managed to fix the problem my self. Several weeks later, after another update, more problems. I knew there was an XP problem so I attempted a reload. My only mistake was to not uninstall Norton first, so now it would not reinstall. Regrettably, I called DELL. This female tech sounded like she was from Norway. She did not understand Format (erase) and had me debug and reinstall. I still could not install my virus software and ended up with the blaster! The next day I called back and got another RUDE Indian. He tried to get me to do 98 diag. on XP . And when it did not work he blamed ME and hung up. When I called back I finally reached an American! Scott was courteous and knowledgeable. If not for a conflict between XP and Direcway, my PC would have been fixed. I tried to get Scott’s help loading my Microsoft software (purchased from dell) but I never got him to call back. Next tech was Indian , with 2 tests I was told that it was a software problem and that they could not help me. They attempted to transfer me to someone who could but that was beyond their technical ability! Another call back, another Indian, same response, same conclusion!!! I finally called software support and they attempted to SELL me tech support !! I explained that this problem was caused during a software reload by one of their techs ,but, I still had to pay. Now I’m dealing with a tech that sounds South African. He knows nothing more than the monitor in front of him is telling him(he mumbled when he read it to himself, and than repeated it to me). After several hours of “that’s odd” I gave up. He told me to download some MS repairs (all of which were for 98) . Now my wife gets involved , she calls Customer Service, and gets INDIA . Practically in tears she gives the phone to me, I’m told “it will be fixed we get off the phone”. Their repair , A new fully loaded hard drive.
After receiving the HD I called tech support for proper instillation. Lucy for me I got Bill in Tennessee, the HD had corrupt software. After format and reload (in the proper order to prevent the conflict) My PC was finally fixed!!!!
Now I’m not saying all foreign techs are unqualified, I’m just stating that the six plus I dealt with were. But I will say the American techs ROCK. With all this said (And some I didn’t) this will probably be the last dell I ever buy. Why pay more for a PC if it doesn’t come with decent tech support ????

I really feel bad for ya. This letter aint done just to prove ya wrong but ..... I just like to see if the americans are good.

I'm a tech myself, though not that good (yet!), and I think the TechSupport in Manila are awesome!

Maybe reading your letter about how good you think the american techs are would serve as an encouragement for Manila techs to excel in troubleshooting.

Again, this is just an opinion, bro.
God Bless all races!

In itself this tells me all I need to know,"For an additional fee you may speak to a North American tech" How could this even be legal? I am in an ongoing dispute with Dell and the only North American I have been able to talk to was one that called to try to settle my Credit card Fraud claim against Dell.
